Is PAT testing a legal requirement?
There's no single law that says "you must PAT test." What the law actually requires, under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, is that electrical equipment is maintained in a safe condition. PAT testing is simply the recognised, insurer-accepted way of proving you've met that duty, which is why most public and employers' liability policies expect it in practice.
How much does PAT testing cost?
Cost depends on item count, site type and access. As a rough shape: smaller sites with under 50 items are typically charged per-item with a minimum callout, while larger portfolios are quoted per visit. Tell us your item count and location and we'll give you a fixed number before booking anything in.
How long does a PAT testing visit take?
A small office of 30-50 items usually takes half a day. Larger sites or multi-building portfolios are scheduled across a full day or split into staged visits so you're never without power to key equipment.
Do you cover my area?
We cover London, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Surrey and Sussex. If you're just outside these areas, get in touch anyway, we may still be able to help.
How quickly can you get someone out?
For most sites we can schedule a visit within a week. Urgent or emergency requests are handled case by case; mention it in your enquiry.
How quickly will I get my certificate?
Any failed items are flagged to you on the spot during testing, so you're never waiting to find out about a problem appliance. The full pass/fail report and asset register follow with a fast turnaround, not same-day, and we'll confirm the exact timeframe when we quote.
What happens if an appliance fails?
It's tagged, logged and flagged to you on the spot. You decide whether it's repaired, replaced or taken out of service. We don't make that call for you, we just give you the information to make it.
How often does equipment need retesting?
It depends on the equipment and environment. Construction site tools need testing every 3 months, while office IT on a fixed desk might only need 2-4 years between tests. See our PAT testing guide for the full breakdown, or we'll confirm the right schedule as part of your quote.
Can you align this with our existing Complete Water Care visits?
Yes, if you're already a Complete Water Care client for legionella or water compliance, mention it in your enquiry and we'll coordinate scheduling where possible.
Do your engineers hold formal qualifications?
Yes, our PAT testing engineers are City & Guilds 2377 qualified, and we carry full public liability insurance. Certification details are available on request.
